World of Warcraft patch 11.1.7 Legacy of Arathor has been officially released, but it brings with it a few notable omissions. Most prominently, no voice acting has been added for Geya’rah, and no Twitch Drop was held to mark the update’s release. While there are likely practical reasons behind both of these absences, it’s still worth noting that an otherwise exciting and highly anticipated update is clearly missing some key elements.
World of Warcraft patch 11.1.7, Legacy of Arathor, is now officially live. The update is the final major patch for Season 2 of The War Within and brings a number of exciting features, most notably Lorewalking, Overcharged Delves, and a new story campaign chapter called Rise of the Red Dawn.
Although there are many new features added in patch 11.1.7, there are also some notable absences that players quickly noticed. Geya’rah, the leader of the Mag’har and daughter of Durotan and Draka from the alternate timeline of Warlords of Draenor, plays a central role in the ‘Rise of the Red Dawn’ campaign and appears as a key representative of the Horde. However, according to Wowhead contributor Portergauge, the character appears to be dialogue-less in the English version of the game, while her counterparts Feran Lothar, Danath Trollbane, and Eitrigg all have voice lines. Additionally, no Twitch Drop event was run to celebrate the update’s release, which is another omission for many players.
Missing Voice Lines and Twitch Drops in WoW Patch 11.1.7
Technically the missing voice lines could be the result of a temporary glitch, but it’s more likely that this is an effect of the recently suspended SAG-AFTRA video game acting strike. Laila Berzins, the actress who voices Geya’rah, is known for popular roles such as Xiao in Genshin Impact, Persephone and Demeter in Hades, and Emberthal in World of Warcraft. As of press time, Berzins has not publicly commented on social media regarding the missing role, but it’s possible that Blizzard decided not to include the voice recording out of respect for the picket lines during the strike.
As far as Twitch Drops go, it appears that Blizzard didn’t prepare any special rewards or promotional materials for this update. Twitch Drops in World of Warcraft began with the release of Dragonflight version 10.0 in November 2022, and have been a tradition with nearly every major update since then. While these drops are not formally guaranteed, players have grown accustomed to these digital gifts over time, and their absence is especially felt this time around.
Ghyrah’s missing voice lines aren’t the first time in World of Warcraft’s recent history. In patch 11.1, Renzik ‘The Shiva’ also appeared without any voice acting, despite playing a major role in the campaign. Renzik is voiced by SAG-AFTRA member Joe Ochman, which indicates that this silence was likely due to the video game acting strike. It’s currently unclear whether Blizzard plans to record these missing dialogues in the future, but now that the strike is over, players can expect these dialogues to be included in an upcoming update.
