Rumor: Infinity Nikki Housing Could Be Controversial

While version 1.8 of Infinity Nikki is expected to introduce a housing system, recent leaks indicate that developer Infold may also introduce a new furniture pass alongside the feature, which will cost $11 per month. This new subscription model introduces another monetization option to the game’s casual dress-up gacha element. Although Infinity Nikki received positive feedback at its launch, its reputation took a serious blow with version 1.5. Not only was the update technically problematic, causing serious issues on multiple platforms, but the new dye system it introduced was highly monetized. The system required players to purchase premium currency to unlock different dye palettes for each individual outfit, causing much discontent in the community.

As a result, many players from various regions boycotted Infinite Nikki. They not only refused to make in-game purchases and use the gacha system, but some even stopped logging into the game. Although version 1.6 launched in a stable state without any controversy, discontent remains within the community. Many fans are still waiting for a fix for the game’s main issues from InFold, and are carefully gauging their response.

As shared by XHS user littleroseredcris, the housing system in Infinite Nikki will reportedly be monetized through a new monthly pass, which will give players access to exclusive furniture for around 80 yuan ($11.13). Additionally, individual furniture items in the housing system will also be available for sale, priced at around 6 yuan ($0.83). Given the negative response to the dye system in version 1.5, the introduction of such a monetization scheme in version 1.8 could deepen the already existing distrust between players and InFold.

Infinity Nikki: How Infold Could Monetize the Housing System

While the leak shouldn’t be taken completely seriously, InFold has viable options to implement premium furniture without incurring community outrage. For example, if Infinite Nikki follows Genshin Impact’s strategy of incorporating premium furniture into a battle pass-like system, it could make the ‘Merry Journey’ more valuable. This in turn could prompt more players to purchase it. Also, earlier rumors have indicated that a new ability called costumes could be added to Infinite Nikki, which would allow players to replicate furniture found in the overworld and place it on their home island. This at least suggests the possibility that most of the furniture in the game will remain readily accessible to players.

After all, there’s still time before version 1.8 hits the live servers. Since version 1.6 is a relatively small update, Infinite Nikki may see some slowdown in the coming days. After the chaos of version 1.5, this may feel like a welcome break for some players. As far as banner outfits go, ‘Enchanted Encounter’ is the flagship 5-star outfit of version 1.6, while ‘Flutter Storm’ is expected to return in the second phase of the update. Whether players participated in the boycott or not, it may still take months for InFold’s response and remediation efforts to take effect.
