In FromSoftware’s latest title Elden Ring: Nightren, players won’t be allowed to start the campaign until they have too many Relics. This three-player co-op spinoff of 2022’s mega-hit Elden Ring launched just a few weeks ago. Nightren drops three players into an alternate version of the Limveld region, where they have to rapidly level up within two in-game days before facing the game’s dangerous Night Lord boss.
Each time players complete a mission, whether it ends in death or successfully defeating the Night Lord, they receive about two to six new Relics as the ultimate reward. These are permanent items that provide specific buffs when equipped on a character, such as improving attributes, increasing base stats, or adding a variety of effects to weapons. Some Relics are specifically designed for one of the eight playable Nightfarers in Elden Ring: Nightren, as they are tied to those characters’ specific abilities. As players complete more missions, their number of Relics grows, and sorting through them can become a complicated and tedious task if they don’t take care to organize them.
It has been revealed that Elden Ring: Nightren does not allow players to queue for the campaign unless they are within a certain maximum limit of Relics. Reddit user Scufozzover1 shared a screenshot of an in-game message informing them that they have exceeded the Relic cap, which prevents them from starting a new campaign. The faded campaign menu in the screenshot shows that they have defeated almost every Night Lord, making it obvious that they have accumulated a large number of Relics. While the actual limit is not yet clear, one fan has speculated that it could be 999, which is in line with the item cap limit commonly used in FromSoftware’s Souls games.

Thankfully, an in-game message found by Scufozzover1 suggests that Relics can be sold for Elden Ring: Nightren’s Murk currency. This currency can be used to purchase emotes, character goblets, and even more Relics at the Small Jar Bazaar shop in Roundtable Hold. However, this can be a challenge for players who like to treasure Relics they’re not currently using but hope to find utility in future character builds. Still, with a hidden Relic cap in the game, it’s possible that these Relics aren’t as valuable as they appear, and may be intended to be more disposable. As such, for players whose inventory is filled with unused Relics, now’s the perfect time to declutter. And if they do, there’s a lucrative amount of Murk waiting for them.
Although Elden Ring: Nightren has only recently launched, fans should expect to see even more playable Nightfarers, bosses, and possibly Relic types added in the future. As the game expands, it’s possible that FromSoftware will either increase the current Relic cap or at least make its exact limit publicly clear. This will give players a better sense of when they should organize their inventory so they don’t inadvertently get left out of the campaign.
