Bandai Namco Entertainment released a surprise trailer on June 17, announcing that the Saiyan Shallot will be joining Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero on June 26. Season Pass holders will be able to play this new fighter 72 hours early, starting June 23. Shallot is an original character introduced as the protagonist of the 2018 free-to-play mobile game Dragon Ball Legends, and his appearance in Sparking Zero will mark his first time in any Dragon Ball title outside of Japan.
Developed by Spike Chunsoft and releasing in 2024, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero came with a massive roster of over 180 playable characters from various entries in the Dragon Ball series at launch. Over time, multiple DLC packs have been released, bringing the fighting game’s roster to over 200 characters. The Japanese publisher shows no signs of slowing down at the moment, with a Daima DLC expansion pack still on the way, and surprise reveals like Shallot ensure that players are constantly kept enthralled.
Dragon Ball Legends hero Shallot is coming to Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero on June 26, while Season Pass holders will be able to access the Saiyan warrior starting June 23. However, the price of this new character has not yet been revealed. Since there has been no precedent for a single-character DLC in Sparking Zero so far, it’s hard to predict how much Shallot will cost at launch. At the moment, the closest comparison can be made to Sparking Zero’s pre-order pack, which included the exclusive character ‘Goku (Mini)’ and some fighters were already unlocked. Meanwhile, the first Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Daima Character Pack that includes 11 new characters was priced at $9.99.
Saiyan Shallot Joins Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero in Surprise DLC
Shallot makes a strong impression in his first trailer for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, where he is seen taking on four of Dragon Ball Z’s most infamous villains: Nappa, Captain Ginyu, Frieza, and Broly. Interestingly, the trailer doesn’t give a glimpse of any of Shallot’s iconic Saiyan transformations, leaving some of his powers still a mystery. Players who are eager to try out this new character can get early access to not only Shallot but all the upcoming Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero DLC content by picking up the Season Pass.
Having received positive feedback from both players and critics, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has proven itself to be a worthy successor to the classic Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series of tournament fighters. The game was also extremely successful commercially, selling over five million copies in just four months after launch, making it Bandai Namco’s third best-selling game of all time.
