Balatro Creator Shares Incredible Achievement Ahead of 1.1 Update

Balatro Creator Shares Incredible Achievement Ahead of 1.1 Update

LocalThunk, the solo developer of the smash-hit poker roguelike Balatro, has recently officially completed all of the game’s achievements on Steam. Releasing in early 2024, Balatro quickly became one of the most addictive games, winning numerous awards. Even today, it attracts thousands of players every day with its addictive gameplay loop.

One of the most popular titles of 2024, Balatro has officially sold over five million copies as of January 2025. According to developer LocalThunk, the game was initially created with the intention of only sharing with friends. But when they received positive feedback, they decided to refine it further and add it to their resume, and that turned out to be a perfect fit. Balatro was nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024, where it competed against legendary titles like Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and winner Astro Bot. LocalThunk’s journey with Balatro is far from over though—as more updates are planned—they recently achieved a major milestone for themselves.

In a recent Twitter post, Balatro’s developer LocalThunk announced that he has completed the game 100%, meaning he has earned every single Steam achievement. Interestingly, only 0.1% of players on Steam have managed to achieve this rare feat. LocalThunk clarified that he did not resort to any shortcuts or exploits to achieve this goal but rather completed the entire process honestly like a normal player. According to the game’s anonymous solo creator, playing Balatro has become part of his daily routine, and this recent achievement has also given him many new ideas for the upcoming version 1.1 update.

Developer LocalThunk Earns Every Balatro Steam Achievement

No official details have been shared yet regarding the 1.1 update, but many players are speculating that it could bring some major gameplay changes or new features to the much-acclaimed poker-themed roguelike Balatro. However, LocalThunk is currently not keen to share more information before the update is ready, making it clear that players may have to wait a little longer for new information. Balatro has received several minor updates since its launch in February 2024, including changing the game’s card artwork to reflect the themes of Stardew Valley, Warframe, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Cult of the Lamb and other popular games.

Although Balatro has sold millions of copies and won several prestigious awards, its developer LocalThunk never expected the game to become such a huge hit. According to them, the launch day was ‘unbelievable’ as the game sold 10 to 20 times their expectations. Balatro earned over $600,000 in revenue in the first few hours of release, which LocalThunk described as the biggest earnings of their lives so far.
