Battlefield 2042 is Crossing Over With Mass Effect

In a surprise development, Battlefield 2042 is set to get a crossover with Mass Effect as part of its latest update. Despite the negative response it received at launch in 2021, developer DICE has attempted to fix many of the bugs and technical issues through subsequent seasons and updates. The seventh and final season of Battlefield 2042 was released last summer. Now EA is preparing to take a step towards the future of its long-running military FPS franchise.

The final phase of Battlefield 2042 introduced an exciting crossover with another popular franchise from EA, the science-fiction horror series Dead Space. This crossover arrived as part of Season 7 and brought an all-new gameplay mode called Outbreak, in which a team of four players must face hordes of AI-controlled zombie-like monsters inspired by the 2023 Dead Space remake. Brave players who take on this fearsome threat also receive exclusive in-game rewards such as an unlockable skin inspired by Isaac Clarke’s iconic spacesuit.

Now Battlefield 2042 is getting an unexpected but exciting crossover with Mass Effect as part of its latest update, which went live on June 17. The crossover includes new character skins inspired by BioWare’s iconic science-fiction RPG series Mass Effect, such as the iconic N7 armor worn by Commander Shepard, and weapon skins inspired by the futuristic blasters used when fighting the Reapers in the original Mass Effect trilogy. This special crossover content is being made available as two separate bundles, while a third bundle includes both together.

Battlefield 2042 Adds Mass Effect-themed Character and Weapon Skins

This crossover between Battlefield 2042 and Mass Effect could be a sign of some big announcements coming from the Mass Effect franchise, even though there hasn’t been much activity on the series lately. Currently, BioWare is working on a new Mass Effect sequel, and a live-action TV adaptation is also in development at Amazon. The series is being written by Fast and Furious 9 writer Daniel Casey and produced by producer Avi Arad. There’s a lot of excitement around the new game, especially to see how it will continue the story after the controversial ending of 2011’s Mass Effect 3.

Meanwhile, Mass Effect now joins the ranks of Dead Space by crossing over with Battlefield 2042, which is somewhat surprising as EA and DICE are already working on Battlefield 6, and there’s no concrete information on when the next Mass Effect game will arrive. So this crossover looks like a fun way to keep fans of both of these popular franchises engaged and excited as EA moves on to its upcoming projects.
