New Splatoon Game Suddenly Announced for the Switch 2

Nintendo has recently announced Splatoon Raiders for the Switch 2, a new spinoff title in the Splatoon series that sees the popular Deep Cut trio return in a new and exciting explorable area. After the huge success of ‘Splatoon 3’, fans were left wondering what direction the franchise would take next, but hardly anyone expected that a new game would be announced within just a few days of the Switch 2 launch.

Nintendo’s Splatoon franchise has now become a major and successful IP for the company, thanks to its third-person multiplayer action gameplay. In particular, Splatoon 3 was a huge success for Nintendo, with over 10 million copies sold in the first three months of its launch. Now that the Switch 2 is out, fans are wondering what the next chapter of this popular shooter franchise will be. Fortunately, a new announcement recently has lifted the veil of mystery, and Splatoon lovers now have the answer.

Nintendo has revealed Splatoon Raiders, a new spinoff title from the Splatoon franchise, coming to Switch 2 via an update on the ‘Nintendo Today’ app. The debut trailer shows the return of the ‘Deep Cut’ trio – the popular characters first introduced in Splatoon 3. In the story, they travel to a mysterious region called ‘Spirehalite Island’ while investigating a new rumor, but get stranded there after a crash-landing. Unfortunately, Nintendo has not yet shared any gameplay details or given any clarity on a potential launch window.

Splatoon Raiders Coming to the Nintendo Switch 2

Although details are limited at this time, Nintendo has confirmed that players in Splatoon Raiders will take on the role of a mechanic with a mysterious background. New images released recently show the character with homemade equipment, including a weapon made from common items like a bottle and rope, a makeshift backpack, and a walking robot. Players’ operational base will be a floating ship, and Nintendo says the island on which the story takes place will be filled with a unique and mysterious atmosphere. Interestingly, the style of the game appears to be heavily inspired by Splatoon 3’s single-player campaign, and no information has been shared about the multiplayer mode so far.

Along with the announcement of the new game Splatoon Raiders, Nintendo has also made it clear that it is not forgetting Splatoon 3. Along with this reveal, the company has also confirmed a major new update coming on June 12. Even though the end of regular updates for Splatoon 3 has already been announced, Nintendo is still working to bring new content and quality of life (QoL) improvements through version 10. Notably, Splatoon 3 will be upgraded with better visuals and higher frame rates on Switch 2, and the crossplay feature will ensure that players from both consoles can continue competing against each other.
