Gearbox Software has confirmed that Borderlands 4 will include a Photo Mode, although the feature won’t be available at launch. Despite multiple mainline titles, spin-offs, and DLC releases, Borderlands 4 will be only the second game in the franchise to feature the much-anticipated feature. Previously, Borderlands 3 launched with a Photo Mode on PC in September 2019, while the feature was added to console versions a month later.
Gearbox Software has been slowly revealing new content and features coming to Borderlands 4, many of which have been developed based on player feedback. A prime example of this is the addition of the optional Combat Radar, which was experimentally added just ahead of pre-launch QA testing after persistent requests from fans. Given the game’s launch in September, there’s still time for Gearbox to announce additional features coming to Borderlands 4 either at launch or after.
Photo mode will be added to Borderlands 4 in a post-launch update. It is not yet clear whether the feature will come with the first patch or in a later update. According to Borderlands 4 creative director Graeme Timmins, the inclusion of photo mode was part of the development plan from the beginning. But Timmins directed the team to prioritize the game’s core experience and quality-of-life features. In preparation for the September launch, the team is currently focusing on final polishing, which led to the photo mode being postponed until after release.
Photo Mode Will Be Added to Borderlands 4 in an Update
It’s no surprise that demand for a photo mode for Borderlands 4 is growing, especially since recent previews have touted it as the most visually impressive entry yet. However, players will need to get the game running smoothly before they can take advantage of this new feature. Despite the fantastic graphics, Borderlands 4’s minimum PC requirements are so high that they could prove challenging for more than half of Steam users, making the experience technically expensive for some gamers.
Fan excitement for Borderlands 4 is still at its peak. Players are closely scanning every gameplay clip and screenshot released by Gearbox Software to gather as much information as possible about the upcoming looter-shooter. Enthusiastic community members have already started listing the legendary gear present in Borderlands 4 based on the screenshots available so far which, given the huge variety of weapons present in the game, is a nearly impossible (Sisyphean) task. If this hype campaign continues like this, Gearbox Software can have every hope of a successful launch for Borderlands 4 in September.
