This is disappointing news for fans of the sandbox genre. The much-anticipated Minecraft-inspired game Hytale has been officially canceled. The game was being developed by Hypixel Studios, the team behind the famous Minecraft server Hypixel. The project, funded by Riot Games, had been in the works for years, making the announcement of its cancellation even more sad for fans who had been eagerly waiting for it since its inception.
Just like Minecraft, Hytale was originally designed as a procedurally generated sandbox game with role-playing elements. Minecraft fans were excited about it, as Hytale’s gameplay not only had similarities but was also inspired by the Mojang franchise. Not limited to just the sandbox mode, the development team planned to add several mini-games to the game to differentiate it from other competitors. Now, when the much-awaited game has been officially canceled, it is even more surprising to know that its six-year-old announcement trailer has been viewed more than 60 million times so far.
Noxy, CEO and co-founder of Hypixel Studios, officially announced the cancellation of Hytale on June 23. He expressed deep disappointment and frustration in a statement shared on Twitter. According to Noxy, over time, Hytale’s vision and ambitions became so complex that the team simply did not have the resources or time needed to complete it. He also mentioned that Riot Games had been very supportive of the development process over the years, and he especially thanked them for that.
Hypixel Studios Announces Cancellation of Hytale
Hypixel Studios has recently become part of an unfortunate trend of smaller developers cancelling their projects. This is not just limited to small studios, even larger companies are facing this challenge, with EA cancelling the Black Panther game being a recent example. Whether the cancellation is due to creative constraints or financial limitations, this news is never pleasant for fans who have been waiting for a new and exciting title for a long time.
One positive side to this news is that the developers at Hypixel Studios will begin working on new projects in the near future. It is also a relief for Minecraft fans that the cancellation of Hytale will have no effect on the Hypixel servers. Even though this much-awaited game will no longer come out, players can still enjoy the server that once gave birth to this dream. And since Minecraft is still receiving frequent new updates from Mojang Studios, it is fair to say that the inspiration behind Hytale will remain alive for times to come.
