Genshin Impact has officially unveiled Ineffa, the 5-star Electro polearm character from the Nod-Cry region, who will make her first playable appearance in version 5.8. As the game draws the Natlan chapter of Arcane Quest to a close, version 5.8 will kick off a new storyline with the prologue of ‘Song of the Welkin Moon’. This final Natlan update will include a summer event, map expansion, and the playable debut of Ineffa set in the backdrop of Nod-Cry, giving players a chance to connect with new locations and characters.
Ineffa in Genshin Impact aims to fill the void that was slowly developed during the Natlan story. The Electro-Charged reaction was first made effective by Ororon in version 5.2, after which Ineffa took it a step further in version 5.6 and further strengthened its potency. However, this reaction has so far lacked a decisive element that can give Electro-Charged teams an equal fight against existing meta options like Freeze and Melt. This is the role Ineffa plays. Ineffa evolves Electro-Charged into a new, improved reaction Lunar-Charged that not only does powerful critical hits, but it scales according to the abilities of all the characters that contribute to this reaction, not just the one character that triggers it. This change not only diversifies the gameplay, but also gives a new dimension to team-building strategies.
Genshin Impact has kicked off its drip marketing of Ineffa by unveiling her on its official subreddit. Being the only new character in version 5.8, Ineffa is sure to get a lot of attention, at least until the Nod-Cry trailer is released. Unlike most other characters, Ineffa is an artificially created being, making her closer to Wanderer or Albedo in temperament. However, while Wanderer and Albedo’s origins and roles have been mysterious and complex, Ineffa was created for a very humble purpose. She was the companion of a lonely child who once founded the ‘Clink-Clank Krumkake Craftshop’.

From a gameplay perspective, the beta test has revealed that Ineffa playstyle is very similar to Fischl or Emily. Her Elemental Skill summons a totem that deals continuous Electro damage, while her Elemental Burst restores the same totem to the field if it isn’t already present. Her kit of abilities seems simple, but its true power lies in the ‘Lunar-Charged’ reaction that Ineffa activates. Any Electro-Charged reaction is converted to ‘Lunar-Charged’ when she’s in the party. Although this system is somewhat similar to Nilou’s Boom reaction, Ineffa team-building limitations are significantly less. This allows her to contribute effectively even in team compositions like Hyperbloom.
Another special thing that makes Ineffa unique is that she is also a shield support character in Genshin Impact, adding extra utility to her kit. Theorycrafters already believe that Ineffa can improve the performance of characters like Ifa and Cyno. Along with this, rumors are also pointing towards the introduction of a male, 5-star Electro Lightkeeper in version 6.0. Given the recent launch of support and hypercarry characters one after another, it is believed that Ineffa can prove to be a perfect teammate for that rumored 5-star character.
